The Show Will Go On!

September 4th, 2020

After much deliberation and thought, the NKBA Excellence in Design Awards evening has been confirmed to be held on Friday 18 September from 4.30pm to 8.30pm. Unlike previous years however, the event will be a held from a series of hubs around the country with a livestream to an MC located in Auckland.

As much as the NKBA would absolutely love to hold a Gala Awards dinner, our traditional big Awards evening, like so many others around the world, is unable to proceed due to the Covid -19 pandemic.

With this change in style and proceedings, we wanted to put together an FAQ to answer those important questions from hygiene controls, to what to wear and where to go. We hope it helps to paint a clearer picture of how the evening will proceed.

Where are the Award events being held?

We are having five Awards hubs throughout the country.

They are in:
1. Auckland, St Matthew in the City (Hosted by Fisher & Paykel)
2. Auckland, Holy Trinity Cathedral, Bishop Selwyn Chapel (Hosted by St Michel)
3. Tauranga, Tauranga Club (Hosted by Laminex)
4. Wellington, Plumbline Showroom, Grenada Village (Hosted by Plumbline)
5. Christchurch, Omarino Wine Park, Harewood (Hosted by Hettich)

Auckland will have a central livestream hub where the MC is located. All other venues will be connected via livestream to that venue. We have a pro team involved, who specialise in live stream events. They will ensure smooth sailing and optimal viewing for all the event hubs.

What time do I arrive?

The event starts at 4.30pm and finishes at 8.30pm. The official Awards ceremony begins at 5.30pm, however we strongly recommend a 4.30pm arrival to ensure you get a sneak preview of all the 2020 EiD Awards entries on the big screen.

8.30pm is an early finish for me and my team – is there an after party?

No. However, we selected an early start time to ensure there was plenty of time for celebrations to continue at restaurants, house parties and bars around the city. Plan your own 😊

I have entered the Awards, but I don’t live in Auckland. If I win, do I still get my Award on the night?

Every hub will celebrate the winners from their region in style. If you win an Award, you will get a big round of applause from your local chapter hub. We are working through the rules around presentations of the Awards and these may need to be contactless. Don’t worry we will make sure you receive your trophy, certificate and prize, it just may be after the event.

For the Designers who have entered, there will be our usual Awards banner available at each hub. We will have a photographer at each hub and there will be opportunity for you to have your photographs taken. Winners, we ask that you make sure you get the sponsor representative of your Award to join you for a photo.

How many guests are invited to each hub?

To ensure we abide by Covid-19 restrictions, hubs will be limited to 100 guests. Please reserve your ticket in advance to ensure you secure a seat. Just maybe don’t bring your aunty, cousin or your mate from way back. Unfortunately, there are not enough tickets for everyone to attend that you might have liked – but that does not stop you enjoying the night with your business or life partner. We will do our best to ensure you get into your preferred hub and that the people you wish to attend are able. We do ask that you stay local to support your regional chapter.

What other restrictions are there due to Covid-19?

There will be tables of ten and once you are seated you must remain seated with table service for drinks and canapes. We also ask that you record your visit on the Covid-19 Tracer App and that you practice social distancing where possible and increased levels of hygiene. Though face masks are not compulsory, if you would like to wear a mask to the event it is welcomed. There will be sanitising stations available at each hub.

The catering companies have strict guidelines they must adhere to and will sanitise between each service delivery to tables, for your safety.

We know how you have missed each other and want to share the love with a hug. But we ask that you please refrain at this time. We know it’s hard but it’s better to be safe, than sorry.

If you are unwell or have any concerns about your personal health and safety, please stay home. It is not compulsory to attend if you have entered. We will refund anyone who presents as unwell on the day of the event and is unable to attend.

What do I wear?

It’s not our typical gala bash, however we also know how important these Awards are to the industry. We suggest a more low-key outfit to previous years. Think formal/dressy, rather than black tie. Wear whatever makes you feel great.

Are there dinner and drinks?

There are drinks and substantial canapes, but no dinner. We recommend making arrangements for dinner after the event to celebrate with your nearest and dearest.
Food and beverage are included in ticket price.

Please be kind.

This is our big event of the year too, and we are also disappointed that it is not our normal gala event. However, we are feeling excited about the evening, the Awards and the creative ways we are going to make this evening fun for all! Thank you for going on this journey with us.

How do I register?

Follow this link to reserve your seats. We do ask that you reserve your seats by Thursday 10 September, so we can arrange the finer details in this very tight timeframe. We can’t wait to see you there.
