Davinia Sutton of Detail by Davinia Sutton has won 2019 Designer of the Year and 11 other awards for her work on two kitchens, two bathrooms and one showroom.
A multi award-winning designer with an enviable career, Davinia was hailed by the judging panel as outstanding and someone who creates timeless solutions regardless of the aesthetic.
“This designer can do anything. She has shown real creativity and diversity. Davinia has risen to the challenge and has an innate ability to understand a client’s brief and style.”
One of the projects that earned her many accolades at the 2019 awards, was a large open kitchen with traditional cabinetry, a custom-made steel rangehood, a dark stained solid timber island bench top, brick bond tiled splashback, off white joinery and engineered stone. The Christchurch kitchen earned four awards for Sutton. It took out 2019 Supreme Kitchen Design Second Runner-Up, Outstanding Renovation Kitchen or Bathroom, Manufacturing Craftsmanship and the Canterbury Chapter Kitchen Recognition Award.
Judges said the kitchen was elegant, well-proportioned and textural.
“The island is a stand-out of incredible attention to detail and manufacturing, while the rangehood is an interesting and welcome addition. There is brilliant balance and integration. Beautiful,” said the judges.
The ensuite from the same traditional 1900’s home renovation, also received two awards for Davinia. The 2019 Supreme Bathroom Design First Runner Up and the CDS Bathroom Design Award.
In this timeless bathroom renovation, Davinia has designed an elegant and refined space featuring a double shower with floor to ceiling glass in a black steel surround and a stunning tessellate tile floor of white and charcoal.
Judges said the bathroom had an old world, but contemporary, feel.
“There are many gorgeous details, but the glass detail of the shower, the detailing of the tiles and the mix of materials are all standouts. A stunning renovation.”
