Inspiration @ Work

May 7th, 2019

As members of a creative industry, inspiration is a big part of what we do. Inspiration can come to us from many places and depending on who you are, it can have multiple meanings. The 2019 NKBA Conference is themed on Inspiration at Work and each of our speakers will do just that – inspire you to do better, more creative and challenging work.

Our two incredible headline speakers are Alex Perry and Ben Shewry.

Alex Perry is the founder of one of Australia’s greatest fashion empires. His design style has been embraced by some of the world’s most famous and beautiful women including Jennifer Lopez, Kim Kardashian and Elle Macpherson. He was a judge on Australia’s Next Top Model and for nearly a decade has paired with Specsavers to design a collection of fashion eyewear every season. Behind this success is an extraordinary story of a working-class boy whose Greek migrant parents instilled a tremendous sense of drive and determination. For Perry, a self-confessed optimist, the road to success has been decades in the making. He has built an empire based on an incredible talent, determination and belief it was possible to create a unique Australian fashion brand the world would fall in love with.

Ben Shewry is the award-winning chef and owner of one of the world’s top 50 restaurants – Attica in Melbourne. Originally from Waitara, New Zealand, Ben’s passion and talent has seen him rise the ranks of the restaurant world to claim the spot as one of the best. Ben was one of six chefs selected to feature in the Netflix original documentary Chef’s Table. Using overlooked ingredients native to Australia, Ben Shewry and his team at Attica create an inspiring, inventive and beautiful culinary experience like no other.

In addition to our two remarkable headline speakers we have arranged some inspirational speaker panels, tours, networking opportunities and education events.

One such opportunity is an exclusive session with three of the most experienced and passionate kitchen, bathroom and architecture professionals in the business. This includes Davinia Sutton, Celia Visser and Chris Tate. Each of these speakers will provide a unique insight into the design industry during a panel session that is not to be missed.

We also have Jesse Staines from Hideaway Bins sharing his thoughts on global and local challenges around waste management and sustainability, and how this will affect the behaviours of homeowners in the kitchen. Consumers have a heightened awareness of the impact of their waste on the environment, and Governments are striving towards zero waste, but in the middle there is a lot of confusion. Jesse will discuss how the kitchen industry can play a critical role in turning good intentions into tangible reductions in the impact of waste on the environment.
