NKBA’s professional development workshops are designed to provide you with the tools and knowledge you need to succeed in the kitchen and bathroom industry.

Kitchen Design Basics Workshop

Aimed at people who would like to gain an understanding of kitchen design fundamentals, this workshop is delivered over two days using a combination of tutor-led content, group discussions, and practical activities to give learners a basic introduction to industry standards and how to apply them to kitchen design.

Designed for beginners, the workshop is also perfect for joiners considering adding kitchen design to their repertoire or for people seeking a career change.

This workshop is the ideal stepping stone into the New Zealand kitchen design industry. Learners who complete this workshop can go on to take the New Zealand Diploma in Kitchen Design once they have gained enough industry experience.

Workshops are subject to minimum numbers.

Learners will receive an NKBA Certificate of Completion at the end of the workshop (this is not an NZQA qualification).

CAD experience is not required for this workshop.

Workshop Tutor

Joneen Rodgers

Joneen is a Gold Designer of NKBA and tutors NKBA’s 1 and 2-day design workshops.

After a period of study and work abroad in Japan, Joneen started her own business, Hello Home Interiors, which she operated for 12 years. Hello Home Interiors won the Creative Small Space Design Award at the 2023 NKBA Excellence in Design Awards. 

Joneen comes from a design background studying a Bachelor of Design in Interior Architecture from Victoria University. She also has a Graduate Diploma in Education and has spent many years tutoring and lecturing at the School of Architecture and Design in Wellington.

Now working for German Kitchens in Wellington, Joneen is passionate about making good design accessible to all and raising the industry standard.

Next Steps

People who complete this workshop and then gain 6-12 months industry experience can take the next step in their career by enrolling for the the New Zealand Diploma in Kitchen Design. Learners who take this pathway to the diploma are eligible to apply for a BCTF (Building + Construction Training Fund) Scholarship, valued at up to $3000.
