Within The Frame is a new-build family kitchen that brings together traditional architectural character and contemporary living. Designed for a busy family of four, the kitchen serves as the central hub of the home, supporting everything from everyday meals and homework conversations to entertaining and larger family gatherings.

The home itself combines two distinct architectural styles, with a villa-inspired frontage transitioning into a modern open-plan living environment. A key challenge was creating a kitchen that felt equally connected to both. The design response balances classic detailing with contemporary simplicity, resulting in a space that feels timeless, refined and deeply integrated with the home’s overall character.

Functionality was at the forefront of the planning process. Rather than following a conventional work-triangle layout, the kitchen was organised into clearly defined zones for preparation, cooking, refrigeration and clean-up. This approach allows multiple family members to use the kitchen simultaneously without disrupting one another, creating a more intuitive and efficient environment for modern family life.

Natural materials play a significant role in the design. Framed oak cabinetry references traditional shaker-style joinery, while warm timber tones, layered textures and natural stone surfaces introduce softness and warmth. Carefully selected finishes provide durability for daily use while maintaining an elegant and understated aesthetic.
