Designed as part of an ongoing holiday home renovation, Room with a View transformed an enclosed and inefficient kitchen into a calm, functional space that embraces both its coastal setting and the relaxed lifestyle of its owners. Created for a middle-aged couple who regularly host friends, family and grandchildren, the kitchen needed to work equally well for everyday use and larger gatherings while maintaining an uncluttered, organised appearance.

A key objective was to improve flow and connectivity within the home. The original U-shaped layout restricted movement and isolated the kitchen from the surrounding living spaces. Introducing a freestanding island completely redefined the room, opening the kitchen to the expansive living and dining areas while significantly increasing bench space, storage and usability. The island also establishes a strong visual connection to the home’s earlier renovations, reinforcing a cohesive design language throughout.

The material palette was intentionally restrained, featuring sleek Dekton surfaces that provide both durability and a refined aesthetic. A raised island wall conceals the preparation area from view while offering a practical serving ledge for entertaining. High-quality integrated appliances, including an induction cooktop with downdraft extraction, maintain clean architectural lines and a clutter-free environment.

Additional storage solutions, concealed breakfast and beverage stations, and thoughtfully planned cabinetry ensure everything has its place. The result is an elegant and highly functional kitchen that feels effortlessly connected to the surrounding home while celebrating the relaxed character of coastal living.
