As part of a wider beachfront holiday home renovation, Room With a View Gin Bar transformed an underutilised thoroughfare into a sophisticated retreat designed for relaxation, conversation and connection to the surrounding coastal landscape. Originally functioning only as a passage between the entry, bedrooms and main living spaces, the room offered extraordinary potential thanks to its expansive water views framed by two walls of floor-to-ceiling glazing.

The clients, passionate gin enthusiasts, envisioned a dedicated bar that could be completely concealed when not in use while also providing a comfortable space for reading, unwinding and entertaining a small group of friends. The design centred on celebrating the relationship between the interior and the landscape beyond, with every decision influenced by the room’s exceptional outlook.

A recessed alcove was transformed into a fully concealed bar featuring integrated refrigeration and storage hidden behind Blum Revego pocket doors. Warm timber elements replaced a previously stark black-and-white aesthetic, introducing richness, texture and a stronger connection to the coastal setting. Vertical timber detailing and extensive acoustic wall panelling create a cocoon-like atmosphere, softening sound and enhancing the sense of retreat.

A palette of natural timber, matte black finishes, antiqued mirrors and muted green upholstery references the colours of the surrounding environment while maintaining a refined, contemporary character. The result is an intimate and inviting space that seamlessly balances function, comfort and atmosphere, offering a peaceful escape designed around good conversation, stunning views and the enjoyment of a perfectly crafted gin.
