Set within a distinctive Fraemohs-designed barn-style home overlooking a river that wraps around the property, this kitchen renovation was driven by a desire to enhance functionality, increase storage and create a welcoming space for both daily living and entertaining. The clients wanted a kitchen that celebrated the home’s unique setting while providing opportunities to display treasured artwork, integrate modern appliances and create a social connection within an otherwise compact footprint.

Despite challenges posed by exposed beams, angled walls, open ceilings and limited space between existing windows, the design successfully transformed the kitchen into a highly functional and visually engaging hub. Removing a small wing wall allowed the kitchen to extend into the adjoining living area, creating additional storage while making room for a sculptural breakfast bar and dedicated bar cabinet. Positioned to face the entry and living spaces, the bar cabinet presents as a furniture piece, offering a sophisticated welcome to guests while concealing the working kitchen beyond.

Custom storage solutions maximise every available centimetre, including a concealed angled storage unit beside the refrigerator and a full-height pantry tower. A rich material palette combines clean-grained larch cabinetry, dramatic porcelain benchtops and subtle aged bronze accents. Reeded glass cabinetry introduces texture inspired by the surrounding water, while integrated lighting showcases artwork, glassware and decorative objects.

The result is a beautifully resolved kitchen that balances practicality, craftsmanship and personality, creating a memorable entertaining space that feels deeply connected to its riverside setting.
