This kitchen renovation reimagines the heart of a Central Auckland home for a couple entering a new chapter of life, creating a space that is sophisticated, highly functional and perfectly suited to entertaining. The clients wanted more than a simple kitchen replacement. Their vision was for a contemporary environment that felt warm, refined and quietly dramatic, balancing a modern aesthetic with practical everyday living.

A pivotal design decision transformed the entire project. By removing an existing south-facing window with limited light and outlook, the kitchen could instead embrace the brighter side of the room. A bronze glass splashback was introduced to capture and reflect natural light throughout the space, inspiring the project’s name, Reflections. Additional skylights were carefully integrated into the existing roof structure, further enhancing daylight and creating a bright, uplifting atmosphere during the day.

The material palette balances warmth with understated luxury. Melteca cabinetry in Borders Oak Organic introduces soft natural texture, while bronze Metalier panels create a rich focal point around the cooking zone. Laminex Porcelain was selected for the island’s working surfaces, complemented by a striking marble in key social areas, including the seating end of the island and the concealed bar.

A sculptural island leg adds architectural interest, elevating the space beyond pure functionality. Integrated appliances maintain clean lines, while a hidden bar concealed behind pocket doors allows the kitchen to transition effortlessly between everyday living and entertaining. The result is a timeless kitchen defined by light, materiality and thoughtful design, creating a warm and sophisticated hub for modern living.
