Perched above Lake Wānaka within a contemporary pavilion-style holiday home, this master ensuite was designed as a private sanctuary that celebrates its remarkable alpine setting. The brief called for a luxurious yet understated retreat that aligned with the home’s clean architectural language, maximised expansive lake and mountain views, and provided a calm, highly functional environment for everyday use.
A key design objective was maintaining a strong connection to the landscape while preserving privacy and simplicity. The carefully planned layout places a freestanding bath against a full-height glazed façade, creating an immersive experience that allows uninterrupted views of the surrounding scenery. Concealed motorised blinds provide privacy when required without detracting from the minimalist aesthetic.
Upon entry, a striking floating vanity establishes a strong focal point. Featuring a bespoke double-bowl basin formed from moulded mineral material, the vanity combines sculptural elegance with practical functionality. Warm American White Oak cabinetry balances the contemporary finishes, introducing natural texture and generous concealed storage. A circular mirror enhances the sense of openness while softening the architectural lines of the space.
The walk-in shower is discreetly positioned behind a feature wall, allowing privacy without compromising the room’s open and spacious feel. A soft, natural material palette of marble, textured tiles and subtle monochromatic finishes creates a sense of tranquility and refinement. Carefully aligned fixtures, concealed drainage and integrated lighting reinforce the home’s architectural precision and attention to detail.
The result is a sophisticated ensuite that seamlessly balances luxury, practicality and connection to nature, creating a timeless retreat that enriches the experience of both the home and its extraordinary setting.
