This ensuite renovation transformed a tired and dated bathroom into a sophisticated retreat that reflects the bold contemporary architecture of its lakeside home. While the clients wanted a dramatic aesthetic upgrade, they were equally committed to preserving key architectural elements, including the original steel shelving, heated towel rail, private WC enclosure and bath positioned to capture views through the window.
The design embraces strong geometric forms, rich textures and a dark, refined material palette to create a luxurious and highly functional space. A substantial wall-hung vanity forms the focal point upon entry, combining a matt porcelain surface with stainless steel double basins and textured white oak veneer cabinetry. Designed as a furniture piece, the vanity provides generous concealed storage while introducing warmth and depth to the room.
Above, a bespoke mirrored cabinet incorporates timber detailing that creates texture and visual interest while enhancing light throughout the space. A striking freestanding black bath sits adjacent to the vanity, creating a sculptural focal point and offering a tranquil place to relax while taking in the surrounding lake views.
The existing shower enclosure was revitalised with large-format tiles inspired by weathered Corten steel, adding richness and contemporary character. Careful attention to alignment, proportions and detailing reinforces the clean architectural aesthetic, while contrasting chrome and stainless steel fixtures introduce a further layer of refinement.
The result is a bold yet timeless ensuite that balances luxury, functionality and architectural integrity, creating a private sanctuary that feels both contemporary and enduring.
