Designed as a private sanctuary within a contemporary Central Otago holiday home, Lake Escape was created to provide a welcome retreat from busy everyday life. Although compact in size, the brief called for a luxurious and calming ensuite that felt spacious, highly functional and deeply connected to its surroundings. Inspired by the region’s rugged landscape and the home’s architectural language, the design balances clean lines, natural materials and understated elegance to create a restorative escape.
A bespoke vanity forms the centrepiece of the room, crafted from striking Tempest Blue quartzite and paired with warm American White Oak cabinetry. Positioned beneath the room’s only window, the vanity maximises natural light while creating a strong visual connection to the outdoors. Slim black-framed mirrored cabinets provide generous concealed storage, ensuring the space remains uncluttered and refined.
Large-format porcelain tiles inspired by local sandstone establish a calm and cohesive backdrop throughout the ensuite. Their subtle texture and tonal variation reinforce the contemporary architectural character of the home while enhancing the perception of space. A generous walk-in shower is positioned as a private retreat within the room, with direct access to the adjoining outdoor spa area. This seamless connection extends the bathing experience beyond the walls of the ensuite and strengthens the relationship between indoor and outdoor living.
