This powder room renovation transforms a compact internal apartment space into a richly layered and memorable guest experience. Designed as part of a full apartment refurbishment, the brief called for a room that felt intimate, atmospheric and distinctive, moving beyond the expectations of a typical apartment powder room. Drawing inspiration from the client’s long career in the jewellery industry, the design subtly references gemstones, craftsmanship and material richness through texture, light and authentic natural materials rather than overt decoration.
The room’s naturally enclosed setting became a key design advantage. Instead of brightening the space, the design embraces its moodiness, using carefully controlled lighting to highlight the character and beauty of the selected materials. A sculptural column basin is positioned directly opposite the entry, creating an immediate focal point and establishing a strong sense of arrival. Wall-mounted tapware maintains a clean aesthetic while allowing the basin to remain the hero of the space.
Natural stone forms the foundation of the design, with its textured, hydro-finished surface revealing intricate crystalline structures and geological depth. Handcrafted Japanese finger mosaics in deep green tones introduce another layer of texture and artisanal detail, while brushed bronze fixtures add warmth and sophistication throughout. A striking jade-bead pendant provides a subtle reference to jewellery design, casting a warm glow across the stone surfaces and enhancing the room’s atmosphere.
Despite its compact footprint, the space incorporates discreet storage and thoughtful functionality. The result is an elegant, highly resolved powder room where craftsmanship, materiality and carefully considered lighting combine to create a unique and immersive experience.
