Bold, vibrant, and unapologetically personal, Hot Toddy Kitchen transformed a dark, compartmentalised kitchen within a heritage-listed Art Deco home into a light-filled hub designed for entertaining and everyday enjoyment. Created for a professional woman who loves to host, the project required careful navigation of heritage constraints while delivering a kitchen that reflected the owner’s personality and zest for life.
From concept through to installation, the design worked within a tightly controlled footprint. Existing features, including the original window placement, sink location, and freestanding oven, were all retained, while council-approved structural changes allowed the dividing wall between the kitchen and dining room to be removed. This opened the home to create one generous, connected living space filled with light and energy.
The kitchen’s character is defined by its daring use of colour. Rich Hot Toddy cabinetry is paired with warm brass accents, stainless steel detailing, and layered lighting to create a space that feels welcoming, sophisticated, and full of life. A woven brass and stainless steel feature panel cleverly resolves the mixed-metal brief, adding texture and visual interest while linking the materials throughout the room.
Special care was taken to celebrate the home’s heritage. Original features, including the Art Deco meat safe and heritage phone booth nook, were thoughtfully incorporated into the new design rather than removed. Combined with durable Dekton surfaces selected to withstand frequent entertaining, the result is a kitchen that honours the home’s past while embracing a bold and contemporary future.
