Harbour Velvet is a sophisticated apartment renovation that transformed a dated and compartmentalised kitchen into a dramatic entertaining pavilion designed around connection, luxury and breathtaking harbour views. Created for a professional couple who regularly host gatherings of up to 15 guests, the project sought to deliver a striking visual statement while improving functionality and embracing the apartment’s unique waterfront setting.

The original kitchen was enclosed by dividing walls, a raised breakfast bar and an obstructive pony wall that blocked natural light and disconnected the space from the surrounding landscape. By removing these barriers, the design completely reimagined the apartment’s layout, creating a seamless open-plan environment that connects the kitchen, living areas and panoramic harbour outlook.

At the heart of the design sits a sculptural waterfall island crafted from richly veined Negresco natural stone. Serving as both a functional workspace and social centre, the island invites guests into the space while anchoring the overall design. Floor-to-ceiling brushed black oak cabinetry conceals integrated appliances behind smooth, minimalist surfaces, creating a refined architectural backdrop.

Custom detailing elevates the interior throughout, including a micro-fluted oak rangehood feature, brushed brass hardware and a dedicated wet bar positioned to maximise harbour views. Bronze-tinted mirrors and antiqued brass shelving reflect natural light and draw the coastal landscape deep into the apartment.

The result is a luxurious, highly functional entertaining space that combines dramatic materiality, exceptional craftsmanship and a seamless connection to its stunning waterfront surroundings.
