Earth and Stone is a master ensuite renovation that transforms a constrained apartment bathroom into a richly layered and highly personalised retreat. Designed for a single homeowner, the project sought to overcome significant spatial limitations while creating a luxurious and functional environment inspired by natural materials, handcrafted objects and earthy textures.

The most significant challenge was a large services riser positioned centrally within the room, which compromised the existing layout and limited storage opportunities. Rather than concealing this constraint, the design incorporated it into a floor-to-ceiling storage solution, turning a problem into a defining architectural feature. The entire layout was reconfigured, with every fixture repositioned except the toilet, dramatically improving circulation, usability and overall spatial balance.

At the heart of the design is a striking terracotta vessel basin, whose handcrafted character inspired the material palette throughout the room. Rich Tempest Blue stone introduces dramatic movement and depth, while dark crown-cut timber cabinetry adds warmth and architectural presence. Soft grey-green walls, textured tiles and bespoke mirror detailing provide layers of visual interest while maintaining a sense of calm and sophistication.

Thoughtful storage was integrated throughout, including generous vanity drawers, concealed cabinetry and additional storage within the adjoining bedroom. A raised bathing platform subtly defines the wet area, while cedar detailing introduces warmth and comfort.

The result is a beautifully resolved ensuite that balances practicality, craftsmanship and character. Through careful planning and considered material selections, a once-cramped apartment bathroom has been transformed into a luxurious sanctuary that feels both deeply personal and effortlessly functional.
