Designed for a medical professional and her close-knit family, this bespoke dining and window seat transforms a spectacular corner of the home into a light-filled space for gathering, dining and relaxation. Positioned to capture uninterrupted views across Pegasus Bay, the design was created to comfortably accommodate family meals, entertaining and quiet moments alike.

The brief called for seating robust enough for up to eight diners, while maintaining an open and airy outlook. Maximising natural light was a key driver throughout the project, with the design carefully engineered to preserve views and allow daylight to flow above, below and through the seating area. The result is a striking floating form that appears effortless while concealing a highly complex structural framework.

Inspired by the soft curves and fluid lines of mid-century modern design, the seating introduces warmth and elegance while complementing the home’s original 1970s architecture. Structural modifications allowed the corner of the room to be opened up with a new window, dramatically enhancing both the outlook and sense of space.

Durable outdoor upholstery was selected for comfort, practicality and long-term performance, ensuring the space is equally suited to everyday use and entertaining. Completing the design is a custom dining table crafted from recycled rimu reclaimed from the home’s original windows and doors, celebrating the property’s history while adding a meaningful handcrafted element.

The result is a highly functional architectural feature that seamlessly combines engineering, comfort and breathtaking coastal views.
