Designed for a retired couple who love to cook and entertain, this kitchen was conceived as the social and functional heart of the home. The brief called for a contemporary space with a strong architectural presence, capable of supporting both everyday living and large family gatherings. A spacious layout, dedicated scullery and seamless connection to indoor and outdoor entertaining areas were central to the design vision.

The solution centres on a refined galley-style kitchen anchored by a striking layered island that serves as both a sculptural focal point and a highly practical workspace. Positioned within the main living area, the kitchen maintains strong connections to the dining spaces and adjoining outdoor barbecue courtyard, encouraging interaction and effortless entertaining. Carefully planned cooking, preparation and cleaning zones ensure the space functions efficiently while remaining visually open and welcoming.

A concealed scullery extends the kitchen’s capabilities, providing additional storage, preparation space and integrated appliances. By separating supporting functions from the main kitchen, the design allows multiple users to work comfortably without disrupting the entertaining experience.

Material selection plays a defining role in the project. A restrained monochromatic palette highlights the architectural form, while richly veined granite introduces depth and drama. Stainless steel work surfaces, textured timber detailing and custom concrete flooring create a layered composition of contrasting textures and finishes. The result is a sophisticated yet highly functional kitchen that balances everyday practicality with a strong sense of craftsmanship, making it the true centrepiece of the home.
