This kitchen renovation transformed an outdated and underperforming space into a calm, highly functional environment tailored to a professional couple and their young family. Intended as their forever home, the project focused on creating a kitchen that better reflected the clients’ lifestyle and aesthetic while addressing frustrations with clutter, limited storage and dated finishes.

Working closely with the clients from concept through to completion, the designer balanced exceptional functionality with a refined architectural presence. Rather than feeling like joinery placed within a room, the kitchen was conceived as an integrated architectural element that contributes to the wider character of the home. The aesthetic was developed collaboratively, ensuring the material palette and detailing connected seamlessly with existing furnishings, artwork and architectural features throughout the interior.

Careful planning maximised efficiency for day-to-day use, with generous work zones, practical storage solutions and a layout tailored to a household where typically one person uses the kitchen at a time. The island was positioned to capture sweeping views across Wellington Harbour, with an L-shaped overhang providing comfortable seating and a place to gather while maintaining clear circulation through the open-plan living areas.

A restrained palette of warm woodgrain finishes, subtle detailing and black accents creates a timeless and cohesive aesthetic. Durable, easy-care materials were selected to suit family life, while budget-conscious decisions, including retaining existing plumbing and gas locations, ensured resources could be allocated efficiently across the wider home renovation. The result is a beautifully curated kitchen that combines practicality, longevity and quiet sophistication.
