Bold Gatherings is a family-focused renovation that transformed an enclosed kitchen into the vibrant social heart of the home. Designed for a family of four with a strong hospitality background, the project centred on relocating the kitchen into the primary living space to create a welcoming environment for cooking, entertaining and everyday family connection.

The clients envisioned a kitchen that balanced the warmth and character of a traditional American aesthetic with contemporary design elements. At the heart of the new layout is a generous island with seating on three sides, allowing the primary cook to remain connected to family and guests while preparing meals. The island creates a natural gathering place, supporting everything from casual breakfasts to larger social occasions.

A hardworking scullery sits discreetly alongside the main kitchen, housing additional storage, a dishwasher, ice maker and clean-up facilities, ensuring the kitchen remains functional and uncluttered when entertaining. The adjacent dining and bar area extends the social experience, featuring a full-height wine fridge, custom brass shelving and a smoky mirrored splashback that introduces warmth and sophistication.

Retaining the existing full-height windows presented a unique design challenge, requiring careful planning to achieve visual balance while preserving natural light and views. Classic shaker cabinetry, warm timber veneers, porcelain surfaces, brass detailing and sculptural lighting combine to create a timeless yet contemporary aesthetic.

The result is a highly functional and beautifully crafted kitchen that effortlessly supports hospitality, family life and entertaining, while serving as a striking centrepiece within the home.
