This ensuite renovation was designed as a calm and sophisticated retreat for a homeowner who values simplicity, functionality and enduring design. Inspired by the architectural character of the home, the brief called for a space that felt refined yet highly practical, incorporating generous vanity space, a walk-in shower, concealed storage and a freestanding bath positioned to encourage relaxation and a connection to the outdoors.
Joining the project at consent stage, the design centred on creating depth and interest through a carefully selected palette of natural materials rather than colour. A key feature is the continuation of the home’s exterior brickwork into the ensuite, strengthening the relationship between architecture and interior while providing a sense of authenticity and permanence.
Natural stone brings richness and movement to the vanity and shower through expressive veining, while dark timber cabinetry introduces warmth and contrast, balancing the lighter surrounding finishes. Storage was thoughtfully integrated, including generous under-vanity cabinetry, concealed mirror storage and open shelving that supports daily routines while maintaining an uncluttered aesthetic.
Functionality remains at the heart of the design, with a spacious walk-in shower, freestanding bath and dual heated towel rails enhancing everyday comfort. The result is a timeless and restorative space that celebrates material integrity, thoughtful planning and the quiet rituals of daily life.
