Designed for a family beach house just moments from the shoreline, this project captures the spirit of relaxed coastal living while delivering exceptional functionality within a compact footprint. Created for a couple and their three teenage children, the kitchen was designed to support everything from casual family meals and post-surf gatherings to entertaining friends and extended family.

The design centres on maximising natural light, storage and social connection. A generous island forms the heart of the space, providing ample preparation areas, casual seating and an ideal gathering point for family and guests. Strategic spatial planning eliminated the need for a formal dining table, allowing the kitchen to function as a versatile hub for everyday living and entertaining.

A warm, textural material palette reinforces the home’s connection to its coastal surroundings. Reclaimed oak veneer cabinetry, timber flooring, travertine tiles and soft, muted finishes create a layered and inviting environment inspired by the colours and textures of the beach landscape. Clean-lined cabinetry with bespoke timber handles maintains a refined yet understated aesthetic.

Thoughtful design decisions, including integrated seating, a dedicated coffee station and a centrally positioned firebox, enhance comfort and usability throughout the year. The adjoining second living area was seamlessly connected to the kitchen, further supporting the home’s social and relaxed lifestyle.

The result is a timeless coastal kitchen that combines practicality, warmth and understated elegance, creating a welcoming heart for family life and entertaining by the sea.
