Created for a professional couple embarking on their retirement years, this master ensuite renovation was designed as more than a bathroom. Following a challenging period in their lives, the clients wanted a private sanctuary that felt safe, nurturing and deeply personal. The existing space required a complete transformation to deliver the warmth, functionality and enduring comfort they envisioned.

A central element of the brief was retaining the bath, despite it rarely being used. Rather than treating it as a secondary feature, the design elevated it into the emotional heart of the room by incorporating it within a spacious open wet-room shower. Set against deep moss-green gloss tiles inspired by New Zealand’s native landscape, the bathing zone creates a rich and immersive retreat that encourages relaxation and restoration.

Designed for two people to use comfortably at the same time, the ensuite combines luxurious materials with thoughtful practicality. A substantial custom vanity in warm American oak veneer provides generous storage through six large drawers, while tactile curved handles and carefully crafted detailing create a furniture-like presence. An oversized mirror conceals services and integrates illuminated recessed shelving, enhancing both functionality and the sense of space.

Ambient lighting, including a delicate bronze pendant and concealed LED illumination, creates a calming atmosphere throughout the day and evening. The result is a timeless, luxurious retreat that balances craftsmanship, comfort and practicality, transforming everyday routines into moments of wellbeing and reflection.
