After three weeks of campaigning and a record 2000 votes, we have a winner of the 2019 NKBA Most Likeable Award sponsored by CDK Stone. The winner is Jaimi Brunton of NT Joinery in Te Awamutu.
The award-winning kitchen received 10% of the votes in what was a hotly contested award.
Designed for a social couple who love entertaining, the new kitchen was part of a renovation to a heritage home in Cambridge.
The goal was to create a modern space that blends well and with sensitivity into a classic villa home. The owners wanted to create a room that would take full advantage of the home’s high ceilings, the modern provincial style theme running throughout the rest of the house and the original timber floors. In addition, they needed to improve the flow of the space, allowing free movement between the dining, kitchen and outdoor areas. An important addition for the clients was also the inclusion of a retrofitting servery window into the existing wall so they could utilise the BBQ area just off the kitchen.
In Jaimi’s award submission, she said she ran over many options with her clients before ultimately settling on a bi-folding door to truly open up the space and to create a natural flow to the outdoor dining area.
“The Shaker style doors helps to carry the classic feel of the house through to the kitchen. The kitchen has also been accented with traditional style handles and the original cornices have been used throughout the rest of the home. It is a timeless white on white look, and we have incorporated texture, not colour, to provide visual breaks.”
Well done to Jaimi Brunton for creating a beautiful kitchen that the New Zealand public has fallen in love with.
