Dear NKBA Members,
NKBA, like most businesses, associations and other entities, is monitoring the COVID-19 (novel coronavirus) outbreak on a daily basis. The health and safety of our members, employees and chapters is always a top priority.
The Executive Board has been in consultation over the last few days with the objective to confirm our position on our core activities in 2020. In light of the current COVID-19 situation, we have taken the decision to create some certainty in a period of uncertainty to help you, our members, with your businesses and to play our part in driving personal and social responsibility with the aim to maintain an attitude of ‘business as usual’ as best we can.
Whilst this has required a number of challenging decisions to be made, ultimately, they have been made to provide the best level of support and stability to our NKBA members and your wellbeing.
Our Education courses will continue as planned; however we will monitor these on a case by case basis and will consider all directives and guidelines from the Government, BCITO and the Ministry of Health.
All CDS and Chapter events are to be suspended immediately until further notice. I’m confident that the CDS Board and the Chapter Chairs will play their role in ensuring this to help limit potential exposure to the virus.
The 2020 Conference is to be postponed until further notice. Considerable planning and work has already been undertaken by Milvia Hannah, Suzie Rees and Rachael Kwok for which I would like to thank them considerably on behalf of the NKBA. Should Conference be cancelled for 2020, Wellington will be our intended 2021 Conference destination. In the event of a cancellation, those who have registered and paid will receive a full refund.
The 2020 Excellence in Design Awards program will continue and the closing date will be extended to take the pressure off and give you all some breathing space. Further notice will be emailed in the next few days once we have settled details.
We are working hard to recreate a new Awards platform for the delivery of the 2020 Excellence in Design Awards event. As we are in uncharted territory we are unsure how this might look and are keeping plans somewhat fluid as we investigate our options. The aim is to deliver an awards experience, within the restrictions we are faced with, that enables a celebration of success and recognition to our 2020 Excellence in Design Award winners and entrants as well as our students graduating. So please continue on with your entries!
We will be engaging with our Sponsors over the coming weeks to propose our revised 2020 Sponsorship changes.

NKBA will continue to thrive and excel, and to drive leadership for the kitchen and bathroom industry, albeit in a different way in 2020.
Our number one priority is to continue to support our members, so we hope this message is received with encouragement and that we can all continue to support each other for the foreseeable future, ensuring of course that we all keep safe and healthy.
