New Zealand Diploma in Kitchen Design (Level 5)
Who Can Take the Course?
Students who are currently employed in the kitchen industry, with a minimum of 6-12 months experience designing kitchens with CAD software. The course has practical components that need to be completed in the workplace.
About the Course
The New Zealand Diploma in Kitchen Design (Level 5) is a 2-year qualification delivered by BCITO | Te Pūkenga. It is made up of a combination of distance learning assignments, block courses, and practical experience in the workplace.
Students must attend one 5-day block course per year, usually held in Auckland, Wellington, or Christchurch. Block courses are delivered by NKBA tutors and structured to enable progressive skill development.
Each block course is supported with a comprehensive NKBA training manual and other resource material.
About the Tutors
Tutors are experienced, qualified kitchen and bathroom designers with Certified Design Society credentials (CKDNZ, CBDNZ or CMKDNZ or CMBDNZ). They use a variety of teaching aids and technology to cater for all learning styles and to ensure the classroom is interactive.
Training Support
Once you are studying, you will be assigned a dedicated BCITO | Te Pūkenga Training Advisor who will provide pastoral care, work alongside you and your employer as you complete assignments, and undertake on-job assessments. Working in collaboration with BCITO | Te Pūkenga, your NKBA tutors will be able to answer any technical questions and provide mentorship during your study.
NKBA Chapter Meetings
NKBA students are welcome to attend NKBA meetings in their region. This will enable them to network with NKBA designers, manufacturers and suppliers, and to stay up to date with design and industry matters in an informal and supportive environment.
Designer & Student Day
This event is an enjoyable way for students to share industry experience, increase product knowledge and discuss current design subjects. This is usually scheduled as part of the NKBA annual conference.
NKBA Annual Conference and the NKBA Excellence in Design Awards
By attending these events, design students can meet with designers, manufacturers and industry suppliers and get to view examples of the best and most recent kitchen and bathroom design work in New Zealand.
