NKBA July Newsletter 2016 Header

The Executive and I are absolutely delighted to advise that we have record entries for 2016! Congratulations to all those designers who put forward their entries, we look forward to celebrating your designs and creativity with you at the Awards Event at the ANZ Viaduct Events Centre in Auckland on Saturday 13 August.

This gives us great confidence that the changes we have implemented this year are on track with achieving the strategic plan goals that this Board and previous, have initiated. You spoke and we listened.

We would like to acknowledge the work that our creative agency Davy & Chapman are doing on our behalf to extend our reach.

The keys points noted to us last year were:

  • Develop the strategic platform
  • Underpinned by strong creative
  • Selecting the best channels for engagement

We can see that the outcomes of working together are bringing great benefits to you; our members, our sponsorship partners and the consumer. Our expectations are being fulfilled and we are just beginning to see where this partnership is going.

With the promotion of the 2016 Excellence in Design Awards and our designers before, during and after the Awards evening, we are confident that there will be multiple benefits in many areas.

NKBA is proud to partner with homestyle magazine to release our 2016 Design entries. Alice Lines, homestyle Editor, is one of our judges along with Milvia Hannah, Nikki Morris, Mal Corboy and Robin Caudwell, well respected industry specialists.

The build-up is starting for the Awards with judging imminent, we are getting excited and we know the judges are too! We look forward to sharing this fabulous Awards evening with you, don’t forget to go online and register now at www.nkba.org.nz

Or better still join us for Conference on 12 & 13 August. We have two International speakers: Jamie Durie - will be sharing with us about the synergy between indoor rooms with the outdoor spaces and Renee Hytry Derrington - a view on what is coming in Future Kitchens. All this plus practical content for you to take away and apply within your businesses, networking and fun. Registrations close on Friday 29 July.

Our 2016 Executive and myself as current President, are very happy that we are able to deliver these outcomes to you and increase the benefit of your membership with NKBA with the promotion of our industry to New Zealand.

Kind Regards,

Heather Wood
NKBA President

More than ever, people are looking for easy ways to fight the spread of germs – and one of their biggest concerns is keeping surfaces clean. Around homes, hospitals, schools, sports clubs and beyond, the growth of bacteria and fungus can cause health hazards. Now Formica® Protec+® laminate provides the solution, with an innovative surface that inhibits the growth of bacteria and fungi on benchtops.

Already known for its wide range of on-trend colours and patterns and its easy clean nature, the Formica laminate collection now offers further benefits with Protec+, its antimicrobial surface. The active ingredient in Protec+, silver, is embedded in the product; therefore the antimicrobial and antifungal properties do not wipe off or leach out providing enhanced antimicrobial efficacy for the lifetime of the product. The antifungal elements also assist with preserving the aesthetics of the surface preventing the growth of mould and inhibiting the growth of odour forming bacteria.

Formica Protec+ laminate is also certified as food safe, making it the perfect choice for use in food preparation areas in kitchens, hospitals, schools and other spaces where good hygiene is essential.

Rigorous testing has ensured that Formica Protec+ laminate has proven effective against a number of leading standards measuring antimicrobial activity and fungi resistance such as ISO22196:2011, JISZ2801 and ASTM G21.

Formica Protec+ laminate

“We’re really excited to be able to offer this added product benefit to our customers” says Laminex NZ Marketing Development Manager Teresa Walsh, “The Formica laminate range offers over 100 on-trend solids, patterns and woodgrain decors in its Velour finish and we look forward to providing enhanced performance across this range which already offers moisture, stain and abrasion resistant easy-clean surfaces. Backed by a seven-year limited warranty, the addition of Protec+ makes Formica laminate the perfect choice for both residential and commercial kitchens, bathrooms, laundries and other applications where hygiene is critical.”

The rolling change will be implemented across all Velour finish decors in the standard Formica laminate range as stock levels are replenished. Please refer to the Formica availability guide for specific colour availability.

Formica Protec+ laminates should be used in conjunction with existing cleaning regimes to fight against contamination. Click below for more information.

EuroCucina is Europe’s most important event dedicated to kitchen design, research and technological innovation. The event took place in April 2016, and Smeg was amongst the most prominent participants.

The exclusive hand-painted FAB28 refrigerators were the star of the display this year – the result of an extensive collaboration between Smeg and Dolce & Gabbana. Each of the 100 “frigoriferi d’arte” – refrigerators of art – is meticulously hand-painted with traditional Sicilian imagery, rendering each piece unique.

Some exciting new Smeg products were revealed at the salon, including the Dolce Stil Novo range (coming to New Zealand in 2017). The appliances present an even, monochromatic surface, enhanced by refined details – such as copper or stainless steel trims. This modern, minimalistic look fits well in any kitchen style, and is sure to bring on that extra touch of European flair.

Pam Thomas

Pam Thomas (from Kitchen Things Newmarket) and Lyn Wilson (Kitchen Things Christchurch) have been elected Gaggenau Brand Ambassadors and recently visited EuroCucina. “It was an amazing experience to be invited to join in the celebration of Gaggenau’s 333rd year visiting EuroCucina 2016 and touring

their iconic factory. It’s something I will never forget “ says Thomas.

They revealed from their visit some new exciting technology due to Kitchen Things late this year, including a world first plumbed in self-cleaning steam oven plus a Sous-vide warming draw.

Gaggenau has revolutionised the common kitchen, with its recipe for sturdy oven enamel being the basis of its success in its trade mark blue. Still today they continue to develop products such as the iconic 90cm built in oven that has maintained its styling but the control system has moved in line with the rest of the range.

Gaggenau demands attention to detail with no compromises, surrounding the user with objects which they will be entirely sure are one of life’s greatest privileges.

Kitchen Things offers your Gaggenau clients from July to September an amazing opportunity to receive a gift with purchase. With specified packages your client could qualify for a free dishwasher plus outstanding bonus offers on selected appliances. Ask your Gaggenau Ambassador today at Kitchen Things.
